Survey Analysis: Continued
This post is a further analysis of the data.
The first question is important in that it shows the
percentage of respondents who even know what Big data is, with only 57.1 per
cent (12 people) answering in the affirmative. 23.8 % (5 people) are not sure
and the rest have no idea what Big data is.
In a follow-up question, those who did not know what Big data
was or were unsure most replied that they were not sure. However, interestingly
one person who knows what Big data is answered that it is useless. And three
people responded that Big data is useful, despite their lack of knowledge.
This question is related to the next one, we can deduce
whether people who know what Big data is are afraid of it or whether it is more
people without knowledge of it who feel a sense of fear towards it.
The responses show that of the ten people who think they
know what information is being collected to a degree of 4+, only five of them
are concerned about Big data. This is interesting insofar as the data collected
in Big data can have a huge impact on our lives, and only five people fear
this. More people who have a low awareness of the information contained in Big data
do not show concern at all.
This question was constructed in such a way as to draw
conclusions as to whether people are aware of how Big data is used. And it is
related to the next one. One person who is highly aware of what Big data is
being used for thinks it is being used in the wrong way. Interestingly, as many
as 5 people believe that Big data is used for legitimate purposes.
The chart shows that 12 people are aware to a good degree of
what Big data is used for. You can see a similarity here to the previous graph
about awareness of what data is being collected.
Here we see that 42.9 % (9 people) believe that Big data can
solve the problems of today's world. We can see a collision between the
knowledge of Big data and the answer yes, because as many as 8 people who
showed knowledge of Big data believe that it can fix the world's problems. Only
3 people who thought they had knowledge of Big data answered No.
Big data can indeed be used to attract your attention on the
web, it is assumed that every user of a survey uses the internet because the
survey took place there. However, as the graph shows, most either do not know
or believe that it was not used in this way. Only 7 people who are aware of Big
data marked yes. 2 people who have little knowledge of the subject have pointed
out that it was used in just such a way.
As many as 8 people believe that Big data does not affect
them in their daily lives. Of these 8 people, 4 replied that they know what Big
data is.
This question was expected to have collated and similar
answers to the question 'Are you afraid of Big data?' however, the answers
differ and here as many as 50 % of the respondents believe it can cause damage
to public safety. The main purpose of the survey was to find out how many
people were fully aware of what Big data was, and through analysis of the data
it can be concluded that only five people showed enough knowledge to make their
answers close to the truth. Worryingly, as many as 12 people thought they had a
high level of understanding of the subject.
The graph above shows that as many as 35% believe that date
is one of the most valuable raw materials on earth.
Conclusions
It is difficult to infer collisions between the answers and
gender or age, the choices were so different that it can be assumed that
knowledge of Big data is similar among young and old, and the same applies to
women and men. However, it can be inferred that the science of Big data is
still shrouded in mystery. Which is astonishing to me because I would have
expected the answers to be more similar. The main purpose of the survey was to find out how many people were fully aware of what Big data was, and through analysis of the data it can be concluded that only five people showed enough knowledge to make their answers close to the truth. Worryingly, as many as 12 people claim to have knowledge of Big data, but it can be concluded that they only think they do.
